Favorite Places To Visit In Africa

So, what is your favorite place to visit in Africa?

For me, I have only visited South Africa and can't get enough of Kruger National Park. We stay in a great hotel, just outside of the Paul Kruger Gate, called The Kruger Gate Hotel. It is very reasonable and only a three minute drive to the gate. We do a combination of hiring a guide and self driving, as we do rent a car. My go to guide is pksafaris.com. Bernhard and his brother are the best.

No doubt that for me it is Kenya and any of the Porini Camps. Amboseli and the Maasai Mara are such incredible places that it seems like we're rarely driving around looking for wildlife...it's always there. Working the Maasai guides is always such a joy and their knowledge is incredible. They always seem to get me in the right spot at the right time.

I am in love with Kenya. The Masai Mara is outstanding. I could not believe Amboseli, for the Elephants and other big game, but the bird photography was unbelievable. There is no place like the Masai for sun rise and sun set. I am going back in January 2025. The Mara Olapa camp was fantastic with game just outside the camp. Counting the days until I return.

I recently took my first trip to Africa - 2 weeks in Kenya and Rwanda. Spent a week on 2 different side of the Masai Mara and then gorilla trekking in Rwanda for a week. It was THE BEST vacation I ever had. It was 5 months ago and I'm still going through photos!

I've been on safari in Botswana twice, traveling with Mountain Travel Sobek's on-site contractor, Wilderness Travel, and staying in their luxury camps. Decadent! I went on a safari in Tanzania once, traveling with a pro photographer's company.

I much preferred Botswana. The group was smaller. The biggest advantage was that if our group was on an animal find, other groups couldn't join us for at least 20 minutes. In Tanzania, if an animal was spotted, 30-40 vehicles would rush to that site.
